Etsy News – Economy Causes Handmade Surge
In this March 2009 MSNBC article, the handmade community is profiled. A tough economy means big business for handmade sellers.
In fact, MSNBC reports that online handmade goods sold at Etsy.com reached a staggering $88 million in sales in 2008, which is a significant increase over 2007 sales of $26 million.
However, those numbers are small potatoes compared to the $9.9 million in sales in January 2009 alone. At this rate, Etsy is on track to see record sales for 2009.
