Etsy Press – Magazine Feature of an Etsy Seller
HandmadeMarketing.org reader Renaissance Austin recently told us about a feature she had in Venus Diva Magazine.
“I was contacted by Stephanie Danforth the Lifestyle Editor for Venus Diva Magazine who ran across my MySpace profile,” this Etsy seller told us. “She loved my work and wanted to feature me on their online website.”
The magazine feature was centered around Renaissance as an artist, her background and how she got into everything she was doing. “The magazine is ran out of Washington DC and Stephanie resides in Detroit. I also had the opportunity to talk with her on the phone and she talked about how many, many people there loved my Etsy shop and that they were spreading the word throughout their circle,” Renaissance told us.
Did the extra press help sales on Etsy? “After that interview I did receieve sales from one guy in Baltimore who purchased a lot of hats and has been a repeat customer ever since,” Renaissance said. “But, I am really not sure if he was a referral from someone associated with the magazine or if he just happened to run across the article.”
However, the connection with Venus Diva Magazine has paid off in other opprotunities for Renaissance. “Just recently I’ve been invited to Detroit to be a part of their Fuller Women Expo,” she said, “so I know that the Venus Diva Magazine circle is keeping an eye on me. I am still contemplating that business move.”

I wrote an article that appeared on Ready Made Magazines blog. It was a tutorial on making my linen and leather card holders. I prepared by making a TON of new card holders expecting this giant wave of sales! haha I think I sold one and whether that person saw the article is debatable! I was pretty bummed but then was contacted by another magazine who saw that article and now I have articles and tutorials coming up in both their Dec/Jan issue and Feb/March! So at the end of the day it was definitely worth it and even though I didn’t get the outcome I expected, I got an even better one in the end!
