Joining an Etsy Team – The Basics

Do you know if your type of Etsy items have a following?  Learn how to network, promote your shop and share ideas by joining an Etsy Team.  Currently, Etsy.com has over 450 teams formed around a type of item, way to craft, shared location, or other interests.

We have seen these teams called either an “Etsy Team” or “Etsy Street Team” by sellers.  Regardless of what you call it, HandmadeMarketing.org thinks every seller should take advantage of this grassroots networking effort developed by Etsy.com.  When you form a team with others in the Etsy community, you are not only showcasing your shop, but your Team’s items and Etsy as a whole.

Joining an Etsy Team is easy and the networking starts almost immediately.  To find an Etsy Team that fits you, check out the “Community” tab at the top of your Etsy page.  From there, click on “Teams”.  You will then come across a list of Teams that are currently available on Etsy.com.

Find the perfect Team for you, and follow the instructions for joining on the Team’s page.  Teams have pages that drift away from the Etsy.com site itself – so make sure to check these pages out to make sure you found the right Team fit.  Keep in mind, the selection process varies from Team to Team.  Some Etsy Teams have open membership, some have selection criteria, and some Etsy Teams even have a juried process involving existing members for admitting new members.  Don’t worry – it’s not quite like picking kickball teams in the sixth grade, but be prepared that being part of an Etsy Team is not automatic membership.

Don’t feel alone once you find an Etsy Team you like.  You can contact the Team Leader or team members for questions about a specific Team.
