If you are from a very small community, the newspapers are always looking for something to add to their print. Have someone else notify them about a nice local artist (you) that they might want to do a feature on. Very often this will lead to you being contacted by one of the reporters wanting to talk with you and take pictures of your work.

I have never, ever thought of doing that. What an excellent idea! Thank you for the tip – having got my work into a local gift shop I think writing an article would be an excellent new project!

Wow, this is great and so true, you never know what opportunity is just around the corner. I like the bit about not being a “secret agent” in Real Estate…I guess we can all be reminded not to be “secret artists.” One thing that has also worked well for me, is never leaving the house without a piece of my handmade paper bead jewelry on. People totally notice and comment, and I always make sure my business cards are within easy reach! Thanks for the tips, and congrats on getting published in WNCwoman!
