I don't think GIMP is any trickier than Photoshop (I use both). They're both full fledged professional photo editing programs and with either one there will be a learning curve.

Honestly, if you can use a Text editor, you can learn to use GIMP.

I love Picnik & sometimes use it in combination with Picasa/Irfanview. GIMP is something I want to try. I've heard it can be tricky at first. Thanks for all the great info!

As a designer myself, I love to experiment with different software (especially for free lol). I like using Paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/download.html) and GIMP - which are both like Photoshop. I think Paint.net is a little simpler than GIMP and a "starter" Photoshop. It's also free (open source) and good for newbies learning graphic design software.

I like picnik.com too because it's easy and has a good number of options.
Now I'm experimenting with simple cropping with windows photo gallery then saving files in a folder
and using FastStone Photo Resizer to batch resize my photos.
Seems to save a bit of time.

Heres the free download link:
http://download.cnet.com/FastStone-Photo-Resizer/3000-2192_4-10319476.html

I am actually a new seller on etsy and editing and taking the right photos I think is very important. As a graduate of graphic design I have access to various photo editing programs, but I have to say my favorite is Lightroom. I highly recommend this software for this purpose.

If your looking for something more powerful, like photoshop, **GIMP** is the open source (Free!) version of Photoshop.

It's virtually as powerful. However, unless you're used to high end photo editing tools, it is quite a steep learning curve. I would suggest using something simpler, like Picnik for a while, get used to the tools they have, then step up later if you'd like more capabilities.

I have used Photoshop Elements for many years, but I love Picnik for three reasons: 1) It's FREE, 2) it's easy, and 3) I can accomplish virtually every editing step with this product that I can with PSE.

I've never heard of FotoFuze, but it looks very interesting. Thanks for the tip!
