Wordle – Playing With Words

“Wordle” is a new application that allows you to create “word clouds” using text. This is a fun tool to help your marketing plan for selling handmade.

Simply go to www.wordle.net and click on “Create”.  From there, either put in text (your item descriptions, shop profile) or a URL (your online handmade store or blog) and click “submit”.

Here’s the fun part… Check out the cool “word cloud” created!

Neat, right?  But there is a marketing use as well! Here are a couple ideas from our team:

• Content Writing. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently.  Take a look at what comes up, and using a thesaurus, see if you can find some different words to say the same thing.   As we all know, content is king for search engine ranking, so make sure you are not using the same word choice over and over… and over…
• Design. You’ve got to admit the design you produce is pretty cool.  You can play around with the design by clicking the “Randomize” button at the bottom.  You’ll see a bunch of different combinations of fonts, layouts, and color schemes.  These images are yours – to keep, share, or sell.  Consider creating a business card for your shop using the design, or incorporate it on a “thank you” to buyers.
